Huge, Neighborhood Sale, June 6, 2009

ONA and the six other neighborhood associations making up the Packard Area Planning Alliance (PAPA) group have formed a Garage Sale team to promote and enlarge our efforts and offer anyone seeking bargains a much bigger sale. This combination of neighborhood associations will make it easier for those bargain seekers to find just what they are looking for.

Mark you calendar for Saturday, June 6th. In the meantime, start organizing, picking through all that stuff from the garage, attic or that closet that has been waiting to be cleaned out.

Let’s hope for good weather and lots of shoppers!

Important Announcement Regarding the ONA Constitution

The ONA constitution has been amended and will be voted on at our January meeting, January 18, 2009 at Taylor University in the Kekionga room. To download a copy of the Constitution, click this link. Changes have been underlined/highlighted.

A huge thank you to all of the neighbors who have volunteered to open their homes for the tour. Your willingness to show Fort Wayne wonderful examples of the history, craftmanship and beauty of the homes in the Oakdale Neighborhood is very greatly appreciated.

Plus, don’t miss the free lecture by renowned designer Paul Duchscherer on Friday evening, June 27 beginning at 7pm at First Missionary Church, located on the corner of South Wayne and Rudisill. Following the lecture there will be a $35 reception featuring intimate conversation with Mr. Duchscherer at the restoration site of the house at 604 W. Rudisill, plus hors d’ oeuvres and cocktails at the gardens of 526 W. Rudisill.

A bonus for the tour will be speaker Paul Duchscherer, who is no doubt familiar to devotees of HGTV’s “Curb Appeal” or PBS’s “This Old House.” Duchscherer, identified on the internet as interior designer, historian and author, is described as having wide professional experience with both residential and commercial properties. His books include “The Bungalow: America’s Arts & Crafts Home,” “Inside the Bungalow: America’s Arts & Crafts Interior,” and “Victorian Glory in San Francisco and the Bay Area.” Paul’s web biography (www.artisticlicense.org) says that he specializes in period-style projects for historic buildings, including interiors to garden and landscape concepts and new construction projects in period styles.

At this time, ARCH is offering a 1/2 price introductory membership to all members of the Oakdale Neighborhood Association, as a Thank You for participating with ARCH in the upcoming Home and Garden Tour. Fill in the ARCH Membership form, and send it in with your payment to take advantage of this great offer!

Broadview Greenhouse Discount & Dirt

This year we have again made arrangements with Broadview Greenhouse on the Winchester Road to give members of Oakdale Neighborhood a 10% discount on all flowers you buy from them.  All you need do is to tell them you are a member of our association and they will check the list provided.  Enjoy the flowers and the spring!

There will be dirt available for members of Oakdale Association after May 2, 2008.  The sites for the dirt will be at the corner of Oakdale and Fairfield and at the corner of Indiana and Fairfield.  We are getting less this year because we didn’t use what we had last year and had to dispose of it.  Feel free to use any and all you want.  It is a first come first serve basis.
